It was a late night last night getting back from Disney.
Two of my favorite things - Mickey Bar (which I get EVERY time) and The Little Mermaid!
We stayed late to watch the Frozen Summer Fireworks at Hollywood Studios. They were pretty awesome!
Needless to say, we didn't get home until almost 12:30. I'm pretty exhausted. I might be declaring a PJ day today. Because I can. It's summertime!
Today's item is my Colorful Read Alouds with Bloom's Taxonomy! This is one way to get your students to be really engaged in your read alouds with higher level thinking!
Do you do read aloud chapter books with your students? I mean, of course read aloud picture books, but I also try to read aloud chapter books every day too. It's our calm-down time after recess. It works really great for the transition. After I finish reading for the time that day, I pull sticks and that person gets to pick an M&M (or sometimes I have Skittles) and then whatever color the Bloom's Taxonomy question is (they are leveled), I ask them a question from that level. If they answer correctly with a valient effort, then they get a few more M&Ms. It's AMAZING what kids will do for 2-3 M&Ms - ha!
Here are some pictures of how I've used them in the classroom. You can check out one of the posts I wrote last year on it {HERE}

My kids LOVE when I read them The Sideway Stories of Wayside School! I read a chapter a day to them.. and they always want me to read MORE! They love how the characters do everything you are NOT allowed or supposed to do/say in school :)
I like to read my students a Magic Tree House Book that ties in with our SS lessons.
I love to read the Pigeon series. My kids beg for those books each year! I also read the Junie B. books!
I love reading the Pigeon books to my students. :)
My favorite book to read aloud to my students is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. No matter how many times I've read this book, I still shed a small tear at the end.
A new favorite is The Day the Crayons Quit, my students and I also enjoy Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Junie B. Jones, Ramona and the Baseball Mysteries series.
I love to start with Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and continue with other books with Fudge. I also love to read the chapter book Top Secret during our unit on plants.

Junie B. is my absolute favorite to share during read aloud time. I always feel like the entire class is engaged with her stories!
The Stories Julian Tells -- his dad is an old, scary grump, but it all turns out great. Wonderful, quick read, chapter book.

I love to read the Junie B. Jones series with my class. This series really helped peak my first graders interest into chapter books.
I love to start by reading Margaret Wise's The Most Important Book. It transitions to so many adaptations of what we are currently learning in every content area.
My favorite read aloud is 'The Tale of Despereaux'! It is such a rich story in so many ways - heart-touching themes and rich figurative language! Your 'Read Alouds using Bloom's Taxonomy' will provide great extension activities!

My kids love read alouds so I do it every chance I get. Some favorites are Mercy Watson series, The Littles, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Charlotte's Web, Flat Stanley, and my all time favorite, The Year of Miss Agnes. It is a great story about a teacher and how she builds a wonderful relationship with her students through her teaching. Great comment question, I love seeing what other teachers are reading to their students!

I love reading chapter books to my kiddos too. And love the question sheets!
Disney World looks like so much fun with kiddos. I've been before kids and I'm hoping we can take my two little boys next year! Thanks for hosting this link up!
