So, when I showed you my classroom library, I had a lot of people ask me about how I keep my books organized.
Well, I don't keep it organized.
My kids do.
Yes, my 2nd graders keep it organized.
They can do it....it takes a little bit of practice, but they get it...
And if they don't??
Well...my library shuts down...
I put the caution tape around it and everything.
But...I've only had to do that once.
Once in 9 years - I think that's pretty good!
Anyways...
I know some of you use that fancy app on your phone that you can scan and keep inventory.
I'm sorry, but LOOK at all those books - and that's not even HALF of them!!
I don't have time to do that.
Really....I don't.
If I lose one??
Well, I just hope that wherever it is, SOMEONE picked it up (wherever it was) and started reading it - and then it has a new home and is being loved.
lol.
Well, THIS is how they keep track of what books they have..
it's really high-techy, isn't it??
They just put the stick wherever the book is that they want to borrow from me.
hehe...they're just paint sticks (donated from anywhere that sells paint) that I put their numbers on (I've been mentioning on a lot of posts about "numbers" - maybe I should just do one on "numbers" to explain to y'all)
Is it fool-proof??
No....
But with kids, is ANYTHING fool-proof??
And I will catch someone with more than one of my books on their desk....it happens. but I do know where EVERY book goes, so if they don't, they bring the book to me.
Although, I give them "THAT look"
you know the one...
So I don't see them too many more times...lol
Anyway, this year, I needed to replace some sticks.
Over the years, some have broken, gotten lost, but mostly, they've gotten dirty...
So I got a few more paint sticks.
but I got BRILLIANT this year - decided to PAINT them!
(like the colors?? They match my chair! LOVE them!!)
and after about a BAJILLION coats
(to cover up that PESKY store name that is stamped ALL over one of the sides),
I wrote new numbers on them and voila!
I love them - colors just make me happy!!
And happy people just don't kill their husbands!
(movie quote! best quote ever, I think!)
Wait....would this count as a Monday Made It???
Well, I DID make them...
So I say it does! lol

Cute line from the movie. I'm using it the next time someone in my house doesn't make me happy:)
Love your library sticks. Yes, you are right. This system my be a little old school, but it sure does work.
Guess I'm visiting my local paint store today :)

Isn't it amazing what second graders can do once you teach them?!? Mine take care of my library too. It runs all by them! I too shut down my library if things aren't working... LOVE that you use caution tape! Hahah that is awesome!

All Students Can SHINE
Love your library sticks! It's great your students can be independent with taking care of their library. I did something similar (with similar colors, even) with my class name sticks a few weeks back.

soooo are the sticks free? did you get them all at once or on a couple of trips? I'm sooo shy about picking things up! Gotta get over it!
Our librarian used to do the stick thing. Yours are mUCH prettier though:)

This is EXACTLY how we track our books in our library... the school library... not my class reading center. You're amazing. Love the colors.
I love those sticks! The colors are fabulous!

Great idea!! Those paint sticks are great! I use them for a holiday gift for parents. My students paint them white and decorate them as snowmen!
I love your blog!
